Press Releases Emergency Preparedness Roll Call in Siak Reinforces Cross Sector Collaboration to Prevent Wildfires

Sei Rokan, Siak, 18 May 2026 — In anticipation of the potential dry season in 2026, cross sector collaboration has once again been strengthened through the Forest, Land, and Plantation Fire Prevention and Control Emergency Preparedness Roll Call (Dalkarhutlabun), held at the Sei Rokan Training Centre field of PT Ivomas Tunggal (PT IMT), Siak Regency, Riau.

A total of 350 participants comprising government representatives, law enforcement authorities, technical agencies, village administrations, local communities, and companies took part in the activity. In addition to PT Ivomas Tunggal, the programme also involved PT Buana Wira Lestarimas (PT BWLM) and PT Ramajaya Pramukti (PT RJP), all subsidiaries of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food.

During the preparedness roll call, all parties signed a joint commitment as a form of readiness in preventing and responding to forest and land fires, while also strengthening coordination in addressing potential risks during the dry season.

Various stakeholders attended the event, including Siak Police Resort, Siak Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Manggala Agni Daops Sumatera VI/Siak, the Siak Regency Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Agency, the Siak Regency Environmental Agency, district leadership coordination forum (Forkopimcam), village administrations, company assisted Fire Aware Community groups (Masyarakat Peduli Api), and other stakeholders from Kandis, Tapung, and Tapung Hilir districts.

The programme went beyond a ceremonial roll call and also included inspections of firefighting facilities and equipment, fire response and victim evacuation simulations, as well as firefighting demonstrations using master pumps and manual equipment.

As part of its prevention efforts, the company continues to strengthen preparedness through manpower support and the utilisation of technology. PT Ivomas Tunggal together with PT Buana Wira Lestarimas (PT BWLM) and PT Ramajaya Pramukti (PT RJP) currently have 60 core firefighting personnel who have received training from Manggala Agni and are organised into 12 teams across their respective estates.

Prevention efforts are also supported by monitoring and early detection systems. These include the Fire Danger Rating System integrated with the GAR Sustainability Information System (GSIS) to monitor fire risks based on humidity, rainfall, and temperature; the satellite imagery based Geosmart Fire application for hotspot detection; as well as AI enabled CCTV and drone support to accelerate fire identification.

Regional Controller of PT Ivomas Tunggal, Tumpal M. Bakara, stated that preparedness measures must be implemented early, particularly in anticipation of the predicted prolonged dry season this year. “The year 2026 is expected to experience a relatively long dry season. Therefore, preparedness and collaboration with all stakeholders, from village to regency level, are key to preventing and controlling forest and land fires,” he said.

Siak Police Chief AKBP Sepuh Ade Irsyam Siregar, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., stressed that forest and land fire prevention must remain a top priority by prioritising integrated patrols, public education, and rapid response before fires spread further. “The law applies equally to everyone. There will be no exceptions for perpetrators of land burning, whether individuals or corporations,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, Kandis District Head Said Irwan added that forest and land fire management in the area has so far been carried out through multi stakeholder collaboration, including through the development of Fire Aware Community groups. “We hope all companies can continue supporting one another, especially in directly adjacent areas, so that forest and land fire prevention efforts can be implemented more effectively,” he said.

Through this activity, all parties reaffirmed that preventing forest and land fires requires consistent and collaborative efforts, not only during the dry season, but throughout the year. Cross sector coordination, field preparedness, and active community participation remain essential to minimising fire risks and supporting a haze free Siak Regency.
