Press Releases Expanding Electricity Access to Support Community Activities and Improve Livelihoods

Ketapang, West Kalimantan (13/04) – Efforts to improve access to reliable electricity for communities in the remote areas of Ketapang continue to progress. In Marau Sub-district, the strengthening of electricity infrastructure has commenced to enhance the quality, stability, and reliability of power supply in Rangkung Village, which consists of two hamlets, Rangkung and Bentawan.

As part of a government-led electrification programme, PT Kencana Graha Permai and PT Cahaya Nusa Gemilang, both part of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, are supporting the development of electricity network access in the area. This initiative represents an important step in strengthening the reliability of energy supply while improving the quality of electricity services for local communities.

Improved electricity infrastructure is expected to deliver tangible benefits to daily life, from supporting children’s evening study activities to strengthening small businesses and enabling broader economic activity at the village level.

The company’s support focuses on clearing pathways for electricity cables and related infrastructure in Rangkung Village, Marau Sub-district. This effort is essential to ensure that electricity networks can reach areas that previously had limited or no access. As part of the implementation, more than 600 oil palm trees within designated company areas will be cleared to enable the construction of the electricity network.

This initiative forms part of a collaborative effort to address infrastructure access challenges in rural areas while ensuring electricity can reach underserved communities. “For us, access to reliable electricity is a fundamental need for communities. Through this collaboration, we hope to contribute to improving quality of life and opening up greater opportunities for communities to grow,” said Agung Tri Wahyudi, Regional Controller for Ketapang Region 2, Sinar Mas Plantations.

“We would like to express our appreciation to Sinar Mas management for supporting the clearing of oil palm trees in Rangkung Village. We hope this brings benefits to all and contributes to the progress of the community,” said Vitalis A. Edyson, Head of Marau Sub-district.

In a similar vein, Priana, Acting Head of Randai Village, also conveyed appreciation for the company’s efforts in facilitating electricity access, which will have a significant impact on the community. “We would like to thank Sinar Mas management for supporting the clearing of company-owned oil palm trees to enable PLN electricity installation in Rangkung Village. The activity has proceeded well in accordance with the planned schedule,” he said.

Enthusiasm was also expressed by representatives of Rangkung Village, noting that the community has long awaited access to electricity. This initiative aligns with the commitment of the Ketapang Regency Government to achieve 100% village electrification by 2029, as there are still a number of villages that do not yet fully benefit from electricity access.

This programme is implemented through collaboration between PLN, local government, and the company as part of a collective effort to accelerate infrastructure development in areas with limited access.
