Jakarta, January 17, 2024— Registration for the 2024 Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Scholarship is now open. As many as 45 young talents graduating from various high schools, i.e. Senior High School (SMA), Islamic Senior High School (MA), Vocational High School (SMK) & Vocational High School of Agriculture (SPMA), from all over the country are wanted for the Diploma III (D3) Degree programme at the Bandung Institute of Technology and Science (ITSB). Apart from the opportunities to attend higher education for free, the scholarship also opens up career opportunities at Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food (SMAF).
There are two programmes in the 2024 Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food scholarship, namely the SMART Agro for plantation studies and the SMART Mills for processing studies. Participants will attend integrated courses from both academia on campus and practitioners in the industry. This scholarship aims to create intelligent and skilful agribusiness human resources (HR) who are up to the dynamic challenges of our times.

SMAF’s Head of Learning and Development, Dodi Mulyanto, said that by 2023 there were 623 students who received scholarships from the Company. The benefits received include full tuition fees, financial support for living expenses per semester, internship opportunities at the Company’s plantation estates, and career opportunities after graduating from college for the best participants.
“During their times in college, participants will not only have in-class materials, but also first-hand experience of field works and internships at SMAF. This aims to improve their technical skills, help them adapt to the work environment, and develop both their managerial and leadership skills. Upon graduating, the participants will also have the opportunity to directly work as assistants in our working units,” he added.
According to Dodi, this scholarship does not only invite young talents to further their interests and hone their skills in agribusiness, but also to contribute to advancing Indonesia as a nation in this field. “Together, we optimise our own potentials as well as that of our nation in the agribusiness sector. This is consistent with the theme of the Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food scholarship, namely Nurturing Hope, Building a Nation, Exploring Indonesia,” he said.

Yayan Sutisna, a beneficiary of the 2019 Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Scholarship, mentioned that the knowledge and experience he gained during his studies turned out to be profoundly useful at work. Yayan, who selected the Palm Oil Processing Technology Programme at ITSB, is now working at Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food as a Mill Assistant at Sungai Kikim Mill, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra.
“I gained a lot of knowledge and experience, especially in terms of the palm oil industry. I did not only delve into theories in the classrooms, but also gained practical experience by doing field work on the Company plantations. Such experience is notably useful for me in my current line of work, where I am responsible for ensuring the quality of oil palm processing products at Sungai Kikim Mill,” explained Yayan.
Yayan went on to say he was extremely proud that he was able to kickstart his career at Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food immediately after getting into the scholarship programme. He is happy that his expertise helps support the provision of eco-friendly food and fuel for Indonesian and the global communities. “I hope this scholarship programme continues to provide opportunities for Indonesia’s young talents to attend higher education,” said the man from Kampar Regency, Riau.
The 2024 Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Scholarship invites more young people to make their dreams come true. Registration will remain open until 31 March 2024. In addition to graduating from high school or its equivalents, the key requirements for candidates include an age limit of 20 years; a minimum height of 165 cm; and a state of being not colour blind, either total or partial.
