Stories ICOPE 2016 Delegations Discuss the Solutions for Climate Change

Indonesia is ready to become part of the solution for tackling climate change. This was the essence of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia’s statement during the recent Climate Change Conference in Paris.

In his welcoming speech, President Joko Widodo emphasised the importance of developing plans for Indonesia on the aspects of protection and restoration of the environment (Kompas, 27 January 2016).

Business leaders who are committed to the sustainable production of palm oil in Indonesia will gather to meet experts, researchers, academics and environmental NGO representatives for three days (16 to 18 March 2016) at the International Conference of Oil Palm and Environment (The 5th ICOPE) to discuss a number of important topics, such as:

• Follow-up from COP21 on the impact of El Niño: the dynamics and adaptation of palm oil plantation sector in maintaining productivity
• Greenhouse gas mitigation through forest conservation: the challenges for smallholders and local communities
• Soil carbon fixation and the potential of palm oil biomass production
• Reducing emissions: fertiliser management and processing of oil palm fruits
• Development of renewable energy: Strategies and experiences from Indonesia and Colombia
