What happens when mums step behind the scenes of the brands they trust? They gain a fresh perspective on what goes into the foods they serve at home – and the impact those choices make.
That’s exactly what unfolded when 50 members of the Andalan Mama community visited our Marunda site, home to FILMA cooking oil, PALMVITA margarine, and other beloved kitchen staples in Indonesia. But this wasn’t just a factory tour.
These passionate home cooks came with questions, curiosity, and a real desire to understand more than what’s written on a label. They wanted to see how their go-to products are made. And why it matters.
From watching palm fruit turn into oil in under 24 hours, to learning how used sachets can be sorted and reused, the visit was a rare behind-the-scenes look at how everyday essentials come to life, and what happens after we use them.
Behind the bottle: What mums saw, learned, and loved
At SMART Lab, they discovered the science and standards behind every drop of oil. For Ho Lina Yahja from Tangerang, it was an eye-opener.
“This was my first time visiting a cooking oil factory,” she said. “I was amazed by how fast and clean the process was. I had no idea palm oil could be turned into so many other products too.”
As they followed the journey from fruit to finished bottle, the mums saw how cleanliness, quality control, and traceability come together. But it wasn’t just the “how” that impressed them. It was the why. Every step reflected the same care and standards they value in their own kitchens.
“We always talk about knowing what’s in our food,” said Ho Lina. “Now I’ve actually seen it.”
Turning everyday habits into real impact

A surprise hit of the day? A waste-sorting game led by our Circular Economy team, where mums sorted household waste into organics, paper, and plastic.
“They queued up to throw away rubbish – and loved it!” laughed Michelle Octavia, Circular Economy Officer. “But more importantly, they left knowing how these small habits make a difference.”
“Even the way they rinsed leftover sachets before binning them showed how deeply they were thinking,” Michelle added. “That’s the start of circular thinking. And these mums can help spread that in their homes and networks.”
For many, it was the first time they saw waste as something with value. And the message hit home: sustainability doesn’t need to be big or complicated. It can start right in your kitchen.
Cooking smarter with the right oil

In a live cooking demo, Chef Garry turned humble ingredients into flavourful dishes – Lumpia Shanghai and Taiwanese beef puffs – using FILMA and PALMVITA.
Beyond the recipes, he shared tips that home cooks could take straight to their own kitchens.
“A good oil should do more than just fry,” said Chef Garry. “It should help your dish turn out golden, crispy, and delicious – without soaking up too much oil. That’s how you know it’s a quality product.”
For the mums, it was an eye-opener.
“I love cooking. But I’d never thought about oil temperature or food texture this way before. Now I know how to choose oils based on the dish, and cook smarter for my family,” said Ho Lina.
It reminded everyone that even the simplest ingredients can shine – with the right oil to support them.
From curious visitors to confident messengers
The mums arrived curious – and left confident, inspired, and ready to share what they’d learned.
“We usually just hear what brands claim,” said Ho Lina. “But now we’ve seen it for ourselves. I feel more confident explaining it to other mums why oil quality matters, and what goes into making it.”
What they took away was more than information. It was a sense of connection and stories they could pass on to others in their homes and communities.
