Marcus L. Budimulia, Head of Organisation and Workforce Strategy at Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, received the “Best Companies to Work for in Asia” award for the second consecutive year from Datuk William Ng, Chairman of the HR Asia Best Companies to Work for in Asia Awards

Organised by Business Media International, the HR Asia Awards is one of Asia’s leading employer recognition programmes, assessing organisations based on employee feedback and workplace excellence. First introduced in Indonesia in 2016, the awards mark their 11th year in the country in 2026.

The HR Asia Awards offer significant strategic value compared to other employer recognition programmes, driven by three key factors: their strong regional prestige as one of Asia’s most respected HR benchmarks; a rigorous assessment process featuring comprehensive and independent employee surveys; and a high level of recognition that strengthens employer branding and supports the attraction of top talent.

The recognition reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to support employee development and create a positive workplace environment. These efforts are guided by the Care-Do-Win working culture, which focuses on supporting employees throughout their journey with the organisation, encouraging innovation that creates value, and helping employees grow and contribute to the organisation’s success.

Marcus L. Budimulia, Head of Organisation and Workforce Strategy, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, said the awards reflect the company’s efforts to create an environment where employees can continue to learn and develop. “These recognitions reflect our efforts to create a workplace where employees have opportunities to learn, develop, and contribute. This award also encourages us to keep improving how we support our people across different stages of their careers,” explained Marcus.

As part of this commitment, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food invests in learning and leadership development. Employees have access to SMILE (Sinar Mas Integrated Learning Ecosystem) Learning Management System, which offers more than 20,000 learning modules to support continuous learning and professional development. Employee growth is also supported through three dedicated training centres across operational areas and a range of leadership development programmes.

Employee wellbeing remains a key focus, supported through initiatives that promote health, safety, engagement, inclusion, and professional development. Women represent more than 25% of the company’s workforce today, reflecting ongoing efforts to build a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Technology also plays an important role in supporting employees and operations. Across its operations, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food has adopted digital solutions ranging from AI-assisted recruitment processes to technologies such as AI-powered fire monitoring systems and SmartTrace, a blockchain-based traceability platform that provides visibility across the palm oil supply chain.

Sustainability is embedded in the way the organisation operates. Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food was among the first palm oil companies to implement a Zero Burning Policy in 1997, followed by its commitment on No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE). In 2025, the company launched Collective for Impact, a sustainability framework that guides its commitments on climate, nature, and people.

The organisation’s commitment also extends beyond the workplace. Through programmes such as RISE (Realising Indonesia Smallholders Empowerment), including Sawit Terampil, as well as Bright Future Initiative, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food supports smallholders and local entrepreneurs in improving productivity and strengthening livelihoods.

“We are grateful for this recognition and would like to thank our employees for their dedication and contribution. We also appreciate the trust and confidence of our partners and stakeholders. Their continued support motivates us to keep building a positive and inclusive workplace,” closed Marcus.

About Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food

Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, which operates under Golden Agri-Resources (GAR), is one of the leading palm oil plantation companies, with a total planted area in Indonesia of over half a million hectares, including plasma, and works with more than 800,000 smallholders farmers. As part of GAR’s global agribusiness with a seed-to-shelf approach, the company manages an integrated business across the production of food products derived from vegetable oils, and continues to grow with purpose, delivering long-term value through sustainable palm oil production practices.

In Indonesia, the company’s main activities include oil palm cultivation and harvesting, processing fresh fruit bunches into Crude Palm Oils (CPO) and palm kernel, and refining CPO into value-added products such as cooking oil, margarine, shortening, and biodiesel for markets worldwide. The company also operates in China and India, with facilities for processing vegetable oils and food products. In 2025, the company produced approximately 2.8 million tonnes of palm-based products, across more than 30 consumer brands.

Sustainability is an integral part of the company’s operations. In line with GAR’s Responsible Agri-Commodity Sourcing policy and Collective for Impact framework, it is committed to ensuring responsible practices, enhancing supply chain transparency, and delivering positive environmental and social impact. Currently, 99.5% of its palm oil supply chain in Indonesia is traceable to the plantation level, while non-palm commodities are 100% traceable to the mill level.

Its parent company, GAR, was founded in 1996 and listed on the Singapore Exchange in 1999, with a market capitalisation of US$2.8 billion as of 31 December 2025. Flambo International Limited, an investment company, is currently GAR’s largest shareholder, with a 50.56% stake. GAR has several subsidiaries, including PT SMART Tbk, which has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange since 1992. With operations in 14 countries and products sold in over 110 markets, GAR combines global scale with local insight. Beyond palm, GAR is a global trader of sugar, soybean, sunflower, and coconut, supported by strong shipping and logistics capabilities.
