Getting sustainable palm oil certification is seen as one of the avenues to improve standards in the industry and gain more market access.
In Indonesia, the government has introduced and is strengthening the Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), a certification scheme that contains a set of mandatory government regulations regarding social, operational and environmental practices for Indonesian palm oil companies. The implementation of ISPO for palm oil smallholders is voluntary.
GAR/PT SMART suppliers recently attended the SMART SEED forum in Medan (the second workshop in the series organised by GAR/PT SMART) to learn more about ISPO certification from government officials, certification bodies and NGOs. And they shared their views about ISPO certification.
